Springtime in Cornwall is a wonderful season to soak up the atmosphere as fresh new buds open in the garden, to bring welcome flashes of green so full of luscious promises.; take a walk in the countryside or even a ride around the lanes; to just sit on the beach and eat an ice cream and of course to welcome spring back into the home by freshening up the look.
The sea change in the season
The sun silently slipped back into our lives this week bringing spring’s breath of summer with it and reawakening memories of its comfortable warmth, so very nearly forgotten through the long winter months.
The sea change came with a soft tranquil morning with glittering dew on the glass and a quiet stillness about the garden before the days unfolded with the beautiful skies and exquisite sunshine. The hedgerows that have lain dormant for so long were clothed in the soft fragrant white May flowers.
1) Celebrating the sunshine with Ice cream of course
We celebrated by stopping in Marazion on the way for one of our B&B shopping expeditions and sitting on the seawall– feet dangling over the edge, eating ice cream to watch the paddle boarders and surfers in the dancing sea and the gaggle of people strolling along the sands below us. The Lizard lay mistily to the far east of the bay and more immediately we could see the walkers on St Michael’s Mount causeway – tiny stick people in our panorama. We sat, sated by the warmth with the delicious feeling of the sun burning out legs through our clothes, in idle celebration of the day before driving on to the supermarket
2) Take a walk or a ride under blue skies through country lanes
Sunday brought a clear blue day and a few hours to enjoy the Cornish lanes with the horses passing the commercial daffodil fields abandoned now, the remaining flowers a blush of gold and the lanes snake on their timeless unaltered routes. We returned to Perranuthnoe by cutting down through Trebarvah.
down the cliff path to pass the beach. We threaded our way through the eager families heading for the sands, laden with body boards and beach detritus, before winding our way back up the hill to Ednovean.
3) Spring inspirations in our home
As autumn brings the need for cosy Hygge so spring brings a need to revitalise our home with a fresh spring look. I placed simple jam jars of daffodils in a repetitive rhythm down the centre of the Breakfast table to reflect the season.
Country style interior
For a fresh spring look for the Pink bedroom, I found some fresh yellow, geometric lampshades, to pick up the gold of the Laura Ashley tartan that trims the bed hangings
And paint! we’ve bought gallons of paint – there is something about spring that inspires spring cleans and nest building don’t you think. Have a great week – I may well be painting!
4) And finally, a little bit of “Me” time
This week the newly reclaimed sunshine, has inspired a new spring look for our home and little dalliance to watch the world go by above the beach but there’s always time for a relaxing cup of tea and a few minutes “me” time – my final Spring inspiration for today’s blog!
