Living in a seasonal home that adapt to the passage of time is a comforting, mindful adventure. And Country homes have all the capacity for reinvention and adaptability of a cat.
Country homes already have a head start of course, gently grounded in the landscape, with an architectural mindfulness, that only needs a nudge to interpret each season within their cosy walls. To welcome each unique part of the year into the home is to relax into the changing fabric of our lives.

Meet our seasonal home
Our home at Ednovean Farm has been converted from a trio of farm buildings that probably date from the seventeenth century, although an earlier chapel, has been recorded on the site from the twelfth century. Some days we wake to hear the roar of the sea carrying across the fields and taste the sea salt on our lips and on others we’re cocooned in an sunny oasis. With every season as the song says! Follow the seasons
The seasonal home follows a slow evolution throughout the year, with each season intrinsic to the character of the building. Those that need contemporary living and utter the words “needs bringing up to modern taste” should scroll on about now.

The seasonal farmhouse will follow the seasons with a relaxed eye, combing colours and textures in an ever changing rotation.
Living with the seasonal home will bring contact the rhythm of the season as they touch our consciousness.
An awareness that’s mindful of life, and is at home within nature.
Buddleia flowers. Just immerse the bottom of the stems into boiling water to stave off their tendency to wilt. The contemporary vase is from Habitat set on a seventeenth century table.
Autumn dreaming
The autumn days ahead will bring the soft golden light along with shorter days. However the compensation will be the earlier sunsets and a chance to find that cosy jumper.
The sun will still bring warm pools of sunshine into the home as this mellow season brings time to reflect and unwind from the year.

Here at Ednovean, the flickering candles in our summertime breakfast rooms, now spread a gentle comforting glow to the autumn mornings. There’s mellowness in the air too, that needs the warmer earthy colours to reflect the copper and golds of the countryside.
Autumn is the time for textured cushions, vibrant rugs and throws; a time to think cosy and maybe light the fire to watch the flicker of flames.

Wintering
Winter brings always brings a certain nostalgia, reawakening memories handed down by tradition. As the days grow shorter, the Winter Solstice and Christmas beckon, as though a distant ghost.
These traditions quietly resurface into our lives, as ephemeral as the flickering shadows. Maybe they’re conjured by the rich scent of spices and pine complimented by the nostalgia of rich reds and greens.
Take a look behind the scenes at our Christmas Decoration at Ednovean Farm. The time is fast approaching – do you hear the jingle of bells – or is it cash registers? Here’s some money saving tips from our winter decorating

“Wintering well is about taking time to absorb the season. It’s an appreciation of the darker days and chillier nights that connects us to the natural world around us. . An acknowledgement of the changing seasons” (Wintering living with the seasons)

Springtime
Spring brings a stirring of the soul, a cleansing and changing of the year. Perhaps that is what gave the tradition of spring cleaning?
The cosy winter clutter, will be put away and windows and doors flung open to the soft stirring currents of air.
A fresh new season and the newly edited interior will to look outwards with anticipation. The doors and window newly flung open and the first chance to sit outside in the awakening world.
Beautiful pots of spring bulbs are always a treat to bring indoors to spread delicate perfumes and spring joy.
If you imagine a mix of nostalgia, a dash of country chic and a smidgen of up cycling, you will have a perfect snapshot for our style.

Summertime
You know I haven’t taken many photos of the interior in the summertime. Maybe I have been bewitched by the prospect of living outside through the long summer evenings. Setting tables around the courtyard or garden for alfresco supers!
I almost think that I could write a section about seasonal table settings as celebrating a meal together is one of my particular pleasures on long summer’s evenings.
Fortunately as we open our home for Bed and Breakfast, I’m also able to indulge in decorating the breakfast tables too, throughout the year!
Our diary is now open for 2026.
