Ednovean Farm has been slowly enjoying her spring edit for the year with a little tweak here and there; just as the season has woven its spell over the house and garden.

There’s apple blossom in the orchard now and a froth of creamy white blackthorn and wildflowers along the lanes. The light is filtering down through the sub tropical planting in the gardens the sea has remembered her brightest cloak of blue.
Now only May remains of the magical spring season and it hardly seems possible that March and April have flown away.

“Sometimes spring leaves a tickle in the interior decorating toes too.“
Ednovean farm probably dates from the 17th century and of course it’s important to respect its nostalgic heart, yet build onto the gentle layers of character and personality whilst quietly freshen up her face.

Editing the home for spring
Now spring is a great time to repurpose the interior – to address that itch that’s been at the back of your mind. And well in fact it’s a good thing that my furniture is on wheels!
It’s always worth checking which objects are unnoticed in corners for fresh impetus!
In the Blue bedroom’s breakfast room, by ousting the bookcase it gave a rest for the eye and space to hang a new picture. A portrait by Garlic Barnes 1891 -1987 (found at auction) was relocated from the snug. She was an female artist who relocated to St Ives to raise her family before concentrated on her art.

Small change for a big impact
Sometimes just a small change can have a big impact. For instance I found a striking new kilim rug for the Apricot bedroom. It adds a gave a bright contemporary note and goes surprisingly well with the faux panel that I painted years ago.

Vintage style
The flowers are always the finishing touches for our bedrooms. They’re displayed in vintage jugs and vases as a little welcoming touch and somehow a breakfast table doesn’t look complete without the fresh velvety texture.
The beautiful harmony of spring
The spring brings new energy
The spring atmosphere settles lightly over the courtyard in the early morning. And while I wait for our guest to arrive for their breakfast, a walk though the garden and it’s dreamlike in the delicious spring sunshine.

It’s such a treat after the long winter – for now is a time of birdsong and buzzing bees; the peace of the tinkling fountain, the contented of the cats washing their whiskers under a palm tree.
“The House Martins arrived today and I watched them begin to check out an empty stable. Such brave little birds I hope that they choose us!”

March in the Italian garden
The golden light of the late afternoon is a fleeting, moving veil, of delicious promise. The dappled shadows that tease new shapes to your eye, yet and abandon them just as quickly, in the moving circle of the day.

The early evening is also a favourite time for me to visit the garden and sometimes I spot our guests quietly exploring too. Admittedly I’m usually juggling an armful of linen fresh from the Cornish breezes, along with the camera but it’s such a rewarding time to wander the familiar walks and courtyards.
As spring unfolds it carries every promise and secret for the seasons to come. A blank canvas for us to imagine the year ahead…
