June in the Ednovean Farm Garden

Formal courtyard garden at Ednovean Farm

I looked down on the courtyard garden early this morning and was pleased to see the hedges improving!

June has been a wonderful month for the garden here at Ednovean farm, with the sun almost dancing in the garden’s shadows. The long dry spell has suited our planting of drought loving and grey leafed plants perfectly here in our seaside garden. This month more of the garden furniture has had a bright new makeover, more unruly hedges have been almost tamed into submission and I completed a tiny new garden project. A summer evening

A summer border int eh garden at Ednovean Farm

The soft golden light as the day fades to evening in our garden

“There is something very comforting about a summers’ evening in Cornwall” Charles remarked tonight as we sat in the garden and he’s right – there is something quintessentially British about sitting in the fading light as a long summer evening meets the night. It brings those half remembered impressions of past summers back to the forefront of our memories– those symbols that say summer in big bold letters. The chiming of a church clock perhaps, or the golden light of early evening, maybe anticipating the prospect of barbeques on the beach –all these things add up to summer days that stretch on seemingly forever as unbelievable we approach the longest day of the year. A moment of magic

Sunset From Ednovean Farm bed and breakfast overlooking St Michael's Mount

The sun setting beyond from Ednovean farm’s garden overlooking St Michael’s Mount

As we start another week here in Cornwall I thought you might enjoy seeing one of those moments of magic when the sun sinks down below the horizon and we slip towards the night. This weekend I managed to race across our lawn just in time to catch these two pictures of a gorgeous sunset over Mounts Bay as the sun sank behind St Michael’s Mount. I always love the effect that the palms that edge our lawn make silhouetted in the dusk and so i thought i would share it in a tiny blog tonight Continue reading “A moment of magic” »

My March garden diary as spring rolls out

Ednovean Farm in West Cornwall where spring comes early

An old gatepost, softened by enveloping Daffodils, provides a focal point at the end of a garden walk

Each day brings new changes to the garden and to the Cornish countryside too as we race towards the spring equinox on Friday. Of course, in reality every hedgerow and bank is a garden at the moment with bright primroses tucked between the mossy stones beside the lanes and flower pickers hard at work in the flower fields. Already now some fields have “bolted” and been left unpicked as a blaze of golden yellow to catch the eye unexpectedly. In the Ednovean farm garden the first tulip opened today and so I thought I had better start my monthly diary before those daffodil days were gone! This morning in Cornwall

Ednovean Farm view to St Michaels Mount and Penzance

Looking across Mounts Bay beyond St Michael’s Mount to Penzance and Newlyn

This morning is just too beautiful not to share and so I’m putting a quick mini blog up just of the view. I took this snap from my kitchen this morning looking down over the gardens to St Michaels Mount with the tide right out by the look of it too.

St Michael’s Mount will be open this morning with Tuesday at 1100am. and again at 2.00p.m. From the 15th of March it will open from 10.30 – 5.00 daily (except Saturdays) It looks so lovely out there I wish I could go.  Continue reading “This morning in Cornwall” »

Our September Garden Diary for Ednovean Farm

Evening garden sunshineEach month I write a diary update about the Ednovean Farm garden that has given our bed and breakfast guests so much pleasure throughout the year. It only seems like yesterday (and where have you heard that before!) that I nervously wrote out first wordpress update about our garden. The month has flown by, soothed along its way with fabulous weather and a warm air flow from the Continent. Continue reading “Our September Garden Diary for Ednovean Farm” »
