I think it is one of the pleasures of this time of year is to stroll about the garden without thinking too much about the work there is to be done just enjoying the gentle, velvety soft colours of autumn at Ednovean.
Autumn in the garden but spring plans
Even in Autumn I can still plan though and delight in the new bulbs and Echiums that are starting to show. Those little promises of a season beyond the winter days to come, that I hope in turn will bring pleasure to our spring Bed and Breakfast guests.
Inspiring skies and golden light – the November gift to the autumn garden
This autumn has produced some inspiring skies and remarkable golden light as in the wind have tumbled and tossed the autumn leaves and stirred the grasses.
The changing face of autumn in the garden has brought some dramatic moments as occasional shafts of impossibly bright sunlight flashed into darker corners of the borders to dance with the shadows
The life of the garden
Our garden is always home to projects that are still up and coming, scruffy bits and good bits that are all part of the garden’s life i tell myself along with a good dash of Garden dreams.
Garden dreams
Take the South walk for instance, alive with Daffodils in the spring but something of an after thought for the rest of the year. Yet is is bordered by lovely views across our fields to Perranuthnoe and out over Mounts bay.
Three stately Phormium already give this part of the garden a wonderful rhythm and the old slightly twisted granite gatepost is a dramatic focal point at the end. So this autumn the flanking Italian Garden hedge has been cut back on the upper generously curving terrace. Each day Danni’s Miscanthus bedding has been piled inside the lower curved walls ready to form new borders to flank the path our guest already love.
We’ve bought some tiny pots of Russian Sage that have now been potted on and they are growing on in the shelter of the courtyards for the winter. This fabulous plant choice was inspired by our visit to Bonython Gardens in the autumn where the cobalt blue spires glowed in the autumn light and later through the winter the white stems will bring a soft radiance to that part of the garden.
