There something about the stillness of winter days that speaks of rest and renewal.
The refining of purpose, as daylight dwindles and finds a peace in the deep silence of an earth at rest.
Winter brings the nostalgia of half remembered traditions
The nostalgia of traditions that reassuringly repeat again each year. In these darker days we choose a Christmas tree, add logs to the fire, light candles and settle down to the comfort food of our youth.
There’s jobs to catch up with
The short days of winter are the perfect time for us to catch up with those garden tasks and spring cleans, that will make Ednovean ready for your holidays.
Planning your holiday?
P.S Some dates are going fast from our diary now so to do take a look in Reservations if you’re planning to visit us next year!
But what else leads our days forward at this time of year?
Comfort food
Winter is a perfect time to dust down those childhood recipes. The sort of nostalgic dishes that occasionally feature on smart pub menus or can be purchased ready made from M&S! The sort of food that your mother used to make in fact!
This snap is features local sausages, with creamy mash and onion gravy – perfect for a chilly evening!
A winter lunch
The short days of winter are a perfect time to catch up with friends over a simple lunch. The darker days lend themselves to candles in mossy pots from the garden and beachcombing finds to deck the table.
I shared Charles’s family recipe for homemade Chicken soup over lockdown but if you missed it:- click here!
Winter walks
For us the short days don’t really allow time for lengthy coastal walks away from Ednovean. Yet a walk around our gardens on a rare frosty morning will transport the imagination.
But a visit to the Perranuthnoe’s broad sandy beach is glorious with the sun setting over the sea. Maybe we will soon?!
