Looking back over 2014 at Ednovean Farm

January 10, 2015

Candles and DaffodilsWith the New Year came the time to take down the Christmas decorations and I swept away the last of the pine needles in a rolling tide of green across the flagstones of our hall. Life can seem a little bit flat after the long build up to mid winter celebrations, when suspended reality seems to hover of our days and so I always make sure I plan a new focus for our home at the packing cases go back into the loft. This year I set the candle lanterns on an old pine blanket box, which had been one of our first purchases for the home nearly 24 years ago now and picked up some vibrantly fresh daffodils from a roadside stall with all of their promise of spring. Join me now for a peek at our year……..

Before looking forward into 2015 I thought it would be nice to take a stroll back through last year looking at the garden through the season from the first promise a days warm enough to sit outside with a cup of coffee, to the cats stretched in the shade as the days became hotter and finally to the softly fading days of autumn and winter.

We welcomed the photographers’, art directors, hairdressers; make up artists, wardrobe mistresses and models from Sea salt, to shoot for their autumn catalogue and Spud-Cat of course, checked out the secret autumn collection with all of the imperious discretion of a cat!Spud washing I must say I felt the benefits of my early start in preparing the garden for them throughout the year, so maybe I’ll plan another garden major clearance this year in early spring too.

As we resigned ourselves to the fading days of autumn we had instead a gorgeous Indian summer and even treated ourselves to a walk along the coast to one of the little secret secluded coves to stretch the last wonderful days of sunshine and salty air towards the onset of autumn.
