Apricot bedroom facelift

February 11, 2017

Teapot and cups in freshly decorated bedroom

Some people wonder what happens during the winter time in a Bed and Breakfast – well believe me we still keep pretty busy and this week, our pretty Apricot bedroom had a facelift ready for her summer guests.

I spent hours in an agony of indecisions pouring over the Laura Ashley wallpaper charts on line because sadly the old thirties inspired paper had been discontinued and eventually fell for a lovely vintage inspired print with a contemporary twist called Summer Palace.

And of course there are those “while you are at it jobs”

You know those pending little projects that can be tacked on! The other year our AA inspector had suggested mounting the TV on the wall in the Apricot bedroom when he visited but chiselling out for the wiring had to wait as you’ve just guessed until we redecorated. And “while we were at it” I found a nice 32” TV/DVD to replace the smaller one.

Window seat and Black and whtie patterned Toile de Jouy curtains
Stenciled faux paneling behind the sleigh bed
Summer Palace wallpaper in Duck Egg blue
Finishing touhes tray with tea cups and pot
Wall TV

I must say I had forgotten just how much dust went with building works perhaps I’ve become more excitable on the subject but sufficient to say a thick cloud formed in the bedroom allowing for a little “while I’m at it” spring cleaning and quilt washing.

Keeping a low profile

Now there’s a time when the wall paper table has been located and scissor and bushes found and your husband reaches for a wall paper paste that it is best to retire elsewhere so I went to visit the Spring Daffodils in the garden with Spud-Cat 😉 and returned as the dust had settled (literally!)

Next job of course

Charles did blanch yesterday though, when I produced a pot of soft grey paint to repaint the trolley as we have guests due tonight. Well, perhaps it would have been a stretch too far until next week but I’m itching to tackle it. For the time being I fell for a charming French inspired tea tray in Sainsbury’s yesterday

You’ll notice the “while I’m at it” extra plug sockets now mounted in a much more accessible place for those pesky travel kettles with short leads – although I’ve a hunch they will double as a phone/laptop charging station. Call it B&B owner’s intuition!

walk in shower - luxury B&B en sutie

2020 Apricot bedroom update!

A big walk in shower base has just been delivered for the Apricot Bedroom along with a mammoth glass screen. We finally succeedd in moving it down from the car park by sliding it along n mats. The instructions said “Two man lift”

Fast forward a month and the gleaming new shower is finally in place and there was even space for a neat line of hooks at the far end.

The Apricot room crib sheet

  • Metal Sleigh bed, Lighting  shades and wallpaper – Laura Ashley
  • Vintage chest – a lucky find in Penzance (ditto trolley) and then given a distressed paint finish in Farrow and Ball Old White and then hand waxed
  • Curtains in black and white Toile de Jouy from Red Rose Textiles
  • Hand made quilt –  Alfred Smith and Sons in Penzance
  • China –  Denby – Morrab Studios Penzance
Iron framed sleigh bed
