Hello Spring!

February 26, 2026

Hello Spring – I’ve been waiting for you!

It’s time to say hello to spring and wave winter a not too sentimental goodbye. the beginning of March brings the meteorological spring, which may be semi-detached from the spring equinox but as it arrives first I’ll take it!

That Spring feeling starts when?

The meteorological spring starts on the first day of March and finishes at the end of May neatly dividing the year into four seasons of three months. However the proper Spring equinox will be on March 20th bringing nearly equal lengths of day and night, as the earth corrects its tilt.

Winter gales and green shoots

If work in our gardens were a board game this year, then winter, has felt like a rather bad game of Snakes and Ladders. We’d move forward three steps, before the next roll of the weather dice would bring a gale, so we’d slide back ten spaces. Yet somehow the garden has carried on, all on its own and arrived freshly minted and swathed in green shoots and flowers ready for spring. Definitely a leg up the ladder without pausing, because springtime in Cornwall is always a season that’s worth looking forward too!

Winters progress into spring.

The low winter light can be beautiful in the winter though and the ornamental grasses have been punctuations throughout the gardens.

I’ve been watching the early Soleil d’Or narcissus opening in the spring garden since December and now by late February we have swathes or daffodils threading across the lawns. This week I took the camera out for a walk with Spud-cat in the golden hour

Golden hour in the spring garden

Spud was thrilled with the idea of an extra walk through the garden that’s so vibrant now with delicately scented daffodils. That day it felt as though we’d packed all the joy of early spring into our afternoon stroll. And it was a perfect chance to add to the occasional Garden Diary

The clumps of daffodils are thriving this year along the palm avenue. I wonder if it was last years baking hot summer that cheered them up cosily cocooned in the warm earth below the lawn. They’re certainly making a happy froth of spring stalking the edge of the lawn now.

The character of the Ednovean farm Garden

It’s a garden that has evolved in the mild Cornish climate that echoes to the sound of the sea.

The garden is full of contradictions at Ednovean Farm, with a heady mix of subtropical palms, formal box hedges and flowing wild borders. Yet at its heart it embraces the seasons in its own way with the smattering of seasonal flowers and swaying grasses drifting through the days.

Springs course towards summer

May will bring the wonderful climax to spring and the daffodils will step aside to allow the subtropical Echiums to sway long into drowsy evening light. Yes there’s a lot to look forward to as we say Hello to spring

Spring breaks

And finally or is that “one last thing” before I go!

We have some three day spring breaks available this year for Bed and Breakfast with a tempting 10% discount for three days or more. Could there be a better way to start the year after all?
