Cornwall is a county of gardens
The mild climate of West Cornwall gives perfect growing conditions for the romantic swathes of spring gardens. Rhododendrons, Camellias, Azaleas, Magnolias and Tree ferns abound in the sheltered established grounds under the granite cairns that offer an acidic soil.

In Cornwall the country lanes are largely untouched by commercial agriculture and are still rich habitat with wild flowers.
Fabulous swathes of succulents cling to cliff faces above the swirling seas. These gardens are lush enveloping fantasises for the garden lover..

The Estate gardens

Trengwainton
This National Trust garden of Trengwainton has everything that you would hope for within the sheltering canopy of trees. The walled garden, redolent with atmosphere. The exotic bright blooms of the rhododendron, camellias and azalais and the final broad terrace with fabulous vies across Mounts bay to The Lizard. There’s a pretty memorable Cream tea to finish! Trewidden garden
Trewidden is a quintessential spring garden with an extensive collection of camellias, a near definitive collection of Azaleas and a magnificent stand of Tree ferns. The pretty tea room with good home cooking will crown your expedition!

Godolphin House and Gardens
There’s and almost tangible atmosphere in the air around the ancient woodlands and medieval gardens of Godolphin. This was our visit.
The walk from the carpark through the bluebell woods is gorgeous and slows the pace from modern life to fully experience the garden simmering with history. Check the National Trust Website

Tremenheere Sculpture garden
Tremenheere gardens hold a growing world class collection of sculptures plus a recreated Chelsea Gold Medal winning garden.
This is a fabulous setting above Penzance a fabulous setting cocooned within a cathedral like woodland. This garden embraces an inspirational sub tropical planting as the counter point of extensive views over Mounts bay. Read more about our visit

Barbara Hepworth Garden
Step into the intimate walled garden in the heart of St Ives, of the home famous sculptress, Barbara Hepworth.
Within the walls, paths wind through considered planting that envelopes and defines her sculptures.

Clifftop gardens

St Michael’s Mount Garden
The terraces and rock gardens of St Michael’s Mount are just fabulous. This is a garden in three parts that combine to perfection.
Firstly intricate terraces exploit every conceivable part of the rockface populated with succulents. In the centre. an elegant walled garden that give way in turn to secluded lawns and subtropical palms. Read about our day exploring the island
The gardens occasionally have limited opening times because of the exposed fragile nature of the site. Visit the official website to check if the garden is open.
The Minack Theatre gardens
The Minack Theatre gardens can only be described as a spectacular fantasy. The theatre, enduring Cornish dream started by one woman Rowena Cade at the bottom of her garden. However now an inspired coastal garden has been created by the talented gardens above the outcrops of rocks, Below, the silky white sands of Porthcurno beach sheltered by Logan Rock.

Chugurno
Chugurno occupies a three acre site above Lamorna Cove and the restoration hold testament to the passion of the owners. Paths wind through lush terraces clothed with sub tropical foliage. Paths cling to the rocky outcrops only to part to give glimpses of the dramatic views. We’ve been inspire with each visit as the garden has evolved through time with a definite sense of Place.
There’s not a dedicated website but the Google knowledge panel shows up to date opening times.
Public Parks and Gardens
Penzance has two sheltered subtropical gardens that open daily. Take a stroll from The Promenade and discover these two historic gardens flanking Morrab Road
. Each garden is open all year and free to visit.

Penlee Park and Garden
Penlee Park and garden is an extensive sub tropical garden that encompasses Penlee House, Gallery and Museum. There’s always an air of measured calm within the garden and of course afternoon tea on the terrace is a must-do too.
Morrab Gardens
The much loved Morrab gardens have the discreet air of Victoriana about them with an iron bandstand at their heart.
I walked through on Boxing day and found camellias in flower (opposite) , bright mallows reflected in a pond and swaying tree ferns lining the paths.

The spring gardens are ready!
