Autumn is a slower, more thoughtful season that’s perfect for just a little cosseting! Each day can bring small echoes of summer, the mellowness of autumn and a hint of the winter days ahead. After all autumn is the start of the mug cuddling season.

There’s a change in the atmosphere as summertime slips away. The feeling is growing now for slower more thoughtful days as the light mellows and the days grow shorter.
The crackle of the fire in the hearth, the pine cones and evergreens foraged from the hedgerow usher in the easing of the days into winter. The longer nights and muted light, gives us a quiet signal to slow down and look forward to the winter festivals that are so fast approaching.
Prunings from the garden set on the dining room table bring the autumn garden indoors.

October melds to November
The voyage from October was more than laced with the vestiges of summer this year. It’s been a month that has slipped us seamlessly into November and before we realised it, the gateway to winter is upon us. Have you noticed that about the years? As one person pithily remarked “As the witches departed the Christmas Elves entered”

An update from The Ednovean Farm gardens.

These days the house is comfortably sheltered amongst the date palm of its sub tropical gardens and attendant topiary. Dusk always seems to add a special magic and it’s a favourite time for me to gather a few snaps.
Brugmansia
The eye catching Brugmansia in the courtyard to the south of the house produced a second crop of orange bell like flowers this October.

Ficus Brown Turkey
We have the the hardy variety that suits the British climate mostly for the glossy foliage to provide a foil for the boundaries of the courtyards. However possession of the sweet fruits provide a battle ground between Charles and the blackbirds each August and September (the birds win!)
The mellow warmth of October very nearly produced the elusive second crop of figs even in the British climate. Very nearly!
There are days when the sea glows intensely blue along the horizon even as the gold and russet leaves drift across the gravel.

Winter festivals to come
Soon the harbours will be decked with Christmas lights, the pubs will temp with cosy fires. Then the towns’ old granite pavements will ring to footsteps and the winter festivals will begin.
We’re delighted to announce that our popular three-day breaks are back!
