There’s a definite change to the seasons now and winter beckons with opens arms. Here at Ednovean we’re settling down to the shorter days as we speed towards the Winter Equinox.
This is the time of year for the big expansive skies beyond the garden. A time to savour the views across the bay within the ever changing kaleidoscope of the season. A time to embrace the intimacy of the secluded enclosures of the courtyards and garden spaces
Winter brings changes
Now is the time for the earth to renew; a time of deep velvety shadows and brooding silence interspersed by unexpectedly, beautiful golden days that deliver an alchemy of light.
The winter garden at Ednovean Farm
Winter always seems to hold a little bit of magic for me though and I relish the spare stark trees and the cool clear air.
From the changing light to the deep velvety shadows, there’s a mystery in the air, as nature follows her well trodden route. It’s the route that will surely take us forward into spring but for now winter is calling.

Nevertheless, today as I walked down through the garden, I spotted the first of the early spring daffodils emerging from rabbit nibble grass.
The sheltered terrace has encouraged the Agapanthus buds to unfurl – which will be in full flower by Christmas I wonder?
Hygge and farmhouse style!
Winter is a great time to tweak the interior. Now is not the time for bare minimalism – now is a time for old fashioned comfort. Candles and fairy lights, plump cushions and cosy throws? Thick creamy old fashioned porridge for breakfast, long soaks in deep roll topped baths? Well this is the season to embrace them all!
Check out the Blue bedroom for that deep bath in the gallery below
Winter decorations!
It’s no secret that as a committed “Christmas-o-phile, a little dash of Nordic inspired candlelight has soon appeared in the Ednovean Farm hallway.
These are salvaged galvanised bulb planters filled with horticultural grit and topped with bright mulch from the lawns. If Charles spots the holes I shall blame the rabbits of course!
Winter celebrations
If you are in Cornwall over the next month or so look out for the celebrations to encourage a return to the light. In Penzance Montol will celebrate the Winter Solstice with ancient ceremonies. Finally the Christmas lights will be switched on around Mounts Bay Click here for details. I must admit that one of my favourite Christmas traditions are The Mousehole Lights followed by Fish and Chips in the The Ship Inn
