Walking in natures garden – Land’s End

May 24, 2017

Cliffs and scenery Land's End - nature's garden

We took a walk through nature’s garden around Land’s End this week along dramatic cliff tops laced with bluebells tumbling towards the sea. May has been a fabulous month in Cornwall and so for a couple of hours we stole away to thread our way through the wild flowers and watched the sea swirl around the rocks below in the far most southwesterly tip of the British Isles at Land’s End

A Journey through West Cornwall to Land’s End

As we followed the road beyond Penzance to the far south westerly tip of the British Isle we watched the trees grow smaller and the vegetation sparser until only the Cornish banks remained as bastions of shelter to the eternal passage of the seasons.

The day we had chosen was mild and sunny – not the stuff of Poldark adventures along the storm thrashed cliffs of untamed Cornwall. Instead we found almost by mistake, natures garden spreading, along the granite cliffs from Land’s End.

Searching for the Song of the Sea

Nanjizal bay home to the sea cave called the song of the sea

Our goal today was to walk back towards Nanjizal Bay to visit the sea cave romantically called the “Song of the Sea.” You may have read about this cove in my recent blog about Secret Cornwall – twelve secluded beaches and I hoped to capture a photo of the cave at low tide and see if the once famous sands had returned to the bay.

A glorious walk through nature’s garden

The walk from Land’s End was fabulous as we climbed up over headlands stopping to admire granite outcrops softened by delicately soft green lichen and skirted serious bird watchers with their binoculars trained on the swooping sea birds swirling far below us.

Finally Nanjizal bay itself came into sight but alas we felt we were running out of time with new Bed and Breakfast guest due to arrive later that afternoon. So with a long yearning glance we retraced our steps and marvelled again at the persistence of the wild flowers that we passed along a walk, that truly was through Natures garden in May.

Traditional cornish Pasty

…..and the nice man on the car park gave us another free return ticket for Land’s End that will be valid for seven days! We celebrated by buying a pasty for supper at a newly opened pasty bakery in Eastern Green – just the thing after the fresh sweet air of Cornwall
