The silence of a summer’s day

August 14, 2024

There’s a deep silence that can only fall as the summers warmth cocoons a Sunday afternoon. A certain contentment, that only falls as the summer garden reaches its’ zenith.

The nostalgic memories of summer

Summer brings those occasional afternoons that will themselves etch into our memories. Heady afternoon’s when the birds have long fallen silent in the still heat, with the silence only broken by the gentle drone of the bees working their way through the lavender.

Afternoon’s when the heady scent of roses and lilies lay trapped within the garden paths. Or hang tantalisingly in the still air drifting sometimes unexpectedly; the very breath of memories.

Those afternoon’s that redolent with memories; the drifting scent o familiar from so many summers.

The gentle tinkle of the fountain on a Sunday afternoon

For us, these Sunday afternoons are a chance to sit in the courtyard with the cats lounging around our feet.  The quiet only broken with a rustle of gravel as Spud moves, uncomfortable hot. Or maybe, a surprisingly deep growl will emanate from Samuel Whiskers, from his safe position under our chairs if he hears a dog on the lane above.

The grasses are rustling gently now around the entrance to the Italian Garden

This summer in the Ednovean Farm Garden

June and July have rushed passed with fickle abandon and we’re heading deeper into August. So now it must time to share my latest views from around the garden with you from this summertime in our garden in Cornwall. The latest summer in my garden diary

There’s something of an escape in a Sunday afternoon just spent in the garden. It’s a chance to unwind and allow the week to recede cocooned in the gentle sounds of nature to nurture. Soon another week will start, another season will evolve but until then the silence of a Sunday afternoon in the garden has a lot to offer. Happy days!
