Farewell September. I’ve cherished each day in your company but now we stand on the cusp of autumn, as summer still treads softly..
It always seems to me that September brings a special peace in the garden, yet there’s still the delicious echo of summertime underneath clear blue skies.

September in the life of the Ednovean garden
Here in the Ednovean Farm gardens, summer still lingers in the courtyards and terraces through September, yet the season dances to the tune of sudden showers amongst long still days. At other times the gentle light and the dappled shadows all speak of the calm of the season.

The merry dance of autumn
The merry dance of autumn days lay ahead as the light mellows and the great plumes of the grasses sail over the gardens once again.
The tall pampas plumes and doughty Miscanthus give fresh counterpoint and highlights to paths and vistas, emerging like old friends.
Life in the orchard
The apple tumble in the orchard where the foxes and badgers feast by night and the horses by day. The beautiful eating apple disappeared rapidly, leaving the plump cooking apples ready for comforting autumn puddings.

The changing mood of the season

The mood is changing in the garden now. There’s a soulful light settling over our day, yet with sudden fleeting flashes of sunshine chasing the shadows away.
However we’ve had a summer to remember and the garden is somnolent with confidence of a summer well spent.

As the month drew to a close, the clear blue skies gave us some dazzling days to finish September and a little promise for the autumn to come. Maybe the winds will blow but fires will crackle and the sea foam fly as we move on to the next season of the year.
We have some special reductions for three day autumn breaks to experience the changing season in Cornwall.
