The last golden days of Autumn – Three simple winter treats

Make a simple breakfast specil with glowing candles to start the dayThe golden days of autumn have begun to fade now, slipping inexorably towards the beginning of winter and as the days have grown shorter I have started to make small adjustments to our home searching for cosy new throws for our bedrooms and extra candles to shimmer on the Breakfast table to brighten the winter days ahead. Little winter treats but maybe these three simple ideas will inspire you to tackle the days ahead as winter arrives there is even a special word for it Hygge.

Autumn days ahead? A cue for hygge

Plump cushions and fresh whtie pillows dress a bed for hyggeAs the cooler, shorter autumn days set in, so a silent cue for Hygge is whispered through the household. Hygge – that useful, unpronounceable, new word that has crept into decorating speak these days and signals cosy-time to start in the house again.

I’ve started gently here at Ednovean Farm, searching out comfortable plump new cushions for the Blue bedroom’s pretty French bed and retrieving warm quilts and faux fur throws for shelves and cupboards to dress the beds again in our own vintage style before sadly putting the fresh white summer covers away for the winter months ahead.

Teapot and cups in freshly decorated bedroomSome people wonder what happens during the winter time in a Bed and Breakfast – well believe me we still keep pretty busy and this week, our pretty Apricot bedroom had a facelift ready for her summer guests.

After an agony of indecision, I decided upon a tin of Farrow and Balls Blue Ground. The tin of paint was duly ordered over the internet and it would arrive by courier on a designated day. What could possibly go wrong? and why was the horse involved in delivering the paint? Continue reading “Don’t put your daughter on the stage Mrs Worthington……..” »

Vintage style country bedrooms

Vintage style in a luxury bed and breakfast bedroom

An antique dressing table in our Blue bedroom with pretty flowers and glass scent bottles

Our home at Ednovean Farm has developed its own unique country style over the years, with pretty, romantic, nostalgic bedrooms have their own individual vintage style.. I love to mix antique furniture with vintage finds and I often spending hours sanding and stripping a piece before giving it a gently distressed painted finish and finally protecting it with a final coat of wax.

This is a corner in our Blue room where an Edwardian Dressing table dressed with pretty china and flowers reflects the wardrobe topped with vintage hat boxes, in its old oval mirror.
