December my winter garden

A view from Ednovean Farm's Garden to St Michael's Mount

A garden view to the sea and St Michael’s Mount whose turrets give the look of fairy tale to our garden

As I crossed the lawn this morning I stooped to wipe the mud from my fingers and felt the soft spring like growth of the grass and warmth in the December dew in my winter garden. This month the garden has grown quiet and spare in the short days of gentle dusk like light and I’ve appreciated the shapes and the angles of the formal planting even more, as they are revealed in the play of the low sunshine that occasionally dances on the plants. With the festive season the garden came into the house too over Christmas in the shape of a homemade swag of foliage to play a part in our festive home Continue reading “December my winter garden” »

A Very Happy Christmas!!

Christams wreath and Christmas card

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas with our warmest wishes Christine and Charles

A very happy Christmas to you!! Thank you for dropping by to read my blog throughout the year and your lovely emails from around the world that I so love to read. Christmas morning has dawned here with the cats are still tightly wrapped in their tails, the horses all tucked up warmly in their stables and the light patter of rain on the windows. Still today I have a date with a wonderful Christmas lunch cooked by Charles and maybe a wheelbarrow and pitchfork for the mucking out!

My last job for Christmas Eve was to weave an evergreen garland to stretch under the exposed roof timbers upstairs and hang the few remaining golden cherubs u to glitter in the candle light. I always leave this job until the last minute (and so sometimes it doesn’t materialise!) so that the foliage stays as fresh as possible over the twelve days of Christmas. I’ll take a couple of snaps later in the morning so open read more below!

So thank you again, for following our website and blog over the year,  to all of our guests who have stayed or those that we still have yet to meet I’d like to wish that you have a wonderful Christmas and the New Year brings you love, hope and joy!! Continue reading “A Very Happy Christmas!!” »

Oh Christmas Tree!

christmas tree 2015The moment finally arrived this week, after extensive research (by which I mean I checked the prices very carefully at various local outlets) that I made my decision as where I could find the best Christmas tree this year and as a housewife of course, it had to be for the right price too!

And so it was on a damp and misty morning, I set off along the A394 to the local garden centre at Breage, to collect Christmas because Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without a proper tree!

A Little Christmas spirit at a time

Christmas decorations at Ednovean Farm

Christmas baubles on my alternative christmas tree

This year I’m making Christmas spirit a little bit at a time here at Ednovean Farm. This week I added a welcoming door wreath that could not be described as understated and my first alternative to a Christmas tree to our guest sitting room. Which look will win over? Will it be the OTT festive or more understated and tranquil- I’m not sure but I do enjoy decorating! Continue reading “A Little Christmas spirit at a time” »

Seven winter days in pictures

Swans on a misty day at the RSPB reserve in Marazion

The swans were sheltering just under the road on the RSPB reserve at Marazion

This week I’d like to share some snaps from a nature photography challenge given to me by a facebook friend– a winter’s week in pictures! I thought it would be more fun to look each day at the countryside around me that I see as I carry out the day to day jobs and journeys. So join me for seven days of photos set in west Cornwall this winter looking at the ordinary landscapes around us and a visit to the sea to watch the waves.
